How to Use This Site

Below are the stripped-down, layperson’s version of what we expect you to adhere to if you post on this site. If you do not agree with what’s below, please do not post on this site. If you’d like to read our full, legal explanation of user expectations, please see our Terms and Conditions page.

The Town of Davidson designed this Community Calendar site as a forum for Davidson events and with the intention of serving as an informational resource for all of our citizens. In order to ensure that this site serves these functions effectively, we require you to:

1) Sign up for an account and password. We know this means an additional step on your part, but it helps to cut down on the number of spam events that are submitted to this site, which means our staffers who monitor this site’s content can spend less time on the maintenance of this site and more time on promoting the site’s contents.

2) Post only events that occur within the Town of Davidson limits, are affiliated with a Davidson business, organization, or nonprofit, AND are open to the public. We know that our neighboring municipalities have some great events going on, but since this site is operated by the Town of Davidson and was funded using Davidson taxpayer dollars, we need to focus on promoting and showcasing what’s happening in town. And although we know that your daughter or son’s birthday party is an event to celebrate and your neighbor’s yard sale might have some good finds, we do not allow you to post those kinds of private or individual events in this forum, either. We want this site to serve as a robust reflection of Davidson’s government, business, nonprofit, arts & culture, and healthy living events, all of which have appeal not just to Davidson citizens, but to visitors as well. If we can focus on listing those kinds of events on this site, it will help to strengthen and promote our community at large.

3) Post only as an official representative of a Davidson business, organization, or nonprofit. Please make sure that your organization designates one authorized person to submit calendar items. That way, you’ll be sure to make the most of your valuable time and our staffers won’t have to check to make sure an event has been authorized by an organization or delete duplicate entries.

4) Refrain from posting events that contain inappropriate content or language. If you wouldn’t feel comfortable with your eight-year-old child or grandchild reading it or seeing it, don’t post it here.

5) Post an event at least 2 business days before the event occurs. All events must go through an approval process (see number 7), and we will try to approve all events in a timely fashion. Our goal is to make sure that all submitted events that meet our criteria are approved and posted to the calendar within one (1) business day of submission. Calendar postings, however, will only be considered as a part of the approval process during business hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Events submitted after 5 p.m. on a weekday will enter the approval process the following business day. Events submitted after 5 p.m. on a Friday or on weekend day will not enter the approval process until the following Monday. If you want to make sure your event will have some visibility outside of that approval window, the sooner you post it, the better.

6) Post no more than five (5) events per month. We know that it may be tempting to list every meeting or every sale that you’re having, but we want to treat all businesses, organizations and nonprofits equitably. We want to provide a resource that is not just a catch-all, but is also discriminating. Please try to assist us when you are deciding which events to post. Consider which events are your most important; which ones are most relevant to our community; and which ones do you think community members and visitors will be most interested in. The Town of Davidson and Davidson College are exempted from this rule.

7) Remember that we’re always here to help…and we are always paying attention! If you have any difficulty with this site, please contact the town’s Public Information Officer Megan Pillow Davis at mdavis@ci.davidson.nc.us or at 704 940-9602. Please also remember that no posts submitted to this website will go live immediately. All posts will go through an approval process and will be seen by another set of human eyes before being posted. So if you choose not to adhere to the above rules, your event will be deleted and will not be posted to the calendar.
